Storm in Poland – as constant as summer break. Why always July and August?

July and August are joyful months for polish children when they look into the calendar. With the end of June they begin the summer break. For their parents it is lazy time too – they regularly take a break in their jobs cause it is magnificent period to spend spare time in Poland. There is only one uncertain thing – local climate.
That specified two months are the time, when in Poland happens the highest temperature is very warm.

Ordinarily, after week with 30-35 Celsius degrees warm wind near the Earth connect with colder air coming from northward. Collectively it is initiate huge, one-two days long gale with lightning. The most massive storms in national past times happened over 80 years ago. First one in July 1928 in capital and nearby towns. That storm causes colossal material losses.

Gale (known as “Derecho”) leads to death of 10 people and 100 wounded. In Poland gales with lightning are seasonal fact. Highest frequency of gales is in mountainous part of country – in areas called Żywiecczyzna, Bieszczady Mountains and Tatra Mountains it occur roughly one in ten days. Lowest frequency is by the sea – 20 days per year.

Other interesting fact are hailstorms. But what should happen to create that sort of gale? 65 of 68 hailstorms occur when temperature was slightly above 15 Celsius degrees and air pressure is nearly 850 hPA. Second factor of incidence of hail is proximity of weather front with equator and polar air masses. How can we be confident that our holiday won’t be disturbed by gale? Pick late August days or early June, choose another region for a course or take a fancy to wintertime sports.
